Years 2003-2007: Gradual Growth

Going back to the chronology of our ESL history, in 2003 Hope Shukers began teaching when Roxanne had to leave. The following year Sherry had to give up teaching, and Linda Jo Galvan replaced her;  that year we had 25 students enrolled.  We had 4 levels with Hope teaching levels 1 and 2.  Then in 2005 Linda Jo was replaced by Nancy Maddox; we had 44 students and 19 children enrolled.   In 2006 Ethel McClintock joined us in the spring of that one year, and in 2007 Mary Betts volunteered to teach.  That spring a couple named Jim and Betty Cumbee brought a vanload of Burmese children each Tuesday night.  That was the first influx of Burmese refugees.  Betty told John, "You prayed for 'em, and we brought 'em."
